Can I have grey window frames on my property?

The short answer is yes you can. You can have whatever colour your heart desires. Yes really, yes any. You can go into your local DIY store, get a paint chart and pick one. It will take longer to manufacture, and will cost you more than standard colours, but you can have any colour you like. But, like many things in life, just because you can, it doesn’t mean you should. Let’s look at the detail….

Grey is everywhere. It is the in colour right now. I’m sure you have been past a new build site lately, and there has been a grey frame, especially if its aluminium. It is the architects frame of choice right now, and it shows no signs now of going away. It has been used on both brick and rendered property, showing versatility, and illustrating that it doesn’t matter what type of finish your home has, it can work. Not everyone lives in a new build though, there are many older houses around, and these can look stunning with grey frames, as long as the style of window fits the age of the property. Grey really is the new black, and it does go with everything.

As great as they are, grey frames are really a statement piece. There is no way you can change your frames for grey without your neighbours noticing. Are you prepared to be the only house on the street or estate with grey frames? There is also the question of fashion. As mentioned before, grey is the in thing, that would suggest that at some point it will be an out thing. Grey frames have been gathering speed over a period of time, and many manufacturers have added Anthracite grey to their standard range. If there were any hint of grey disappearing, this wouldn’t have happened. There is no point stocking product you are not confident of people buying. The industry feeling is grey is around to stay, but I’m also sure the same was said about avocado bathroom suites once!

There is also the question of the frames making the interior darker. Grey interior frames can look amazing if the woodwork is a similar colour, and the windows are large enough to let in enough light. White frames inside the property is more common however and doesn’t limit your decorating choice as much.

No one else can tell you if you should have grey frames or not. In the right style, they can suit any property, and make a real difference to it’s overall look.. There are as many reasons to have them as not to. It really is a personal choice and should be down to how you want your home to look. So grey or not grey? That really is the question….
